CAMP DISCOVERY THEMES

BOARD GAMES FROM AROUND THE WORLD:

July 2-12 (no camp on Monday, July 1st)

Join us as we travel the world searching for traditional and unique board games. We will research where the games came from, the history behind each game and the role they played in society. Choosing our favourites, we will practice in becoming gameboard experts. Now we will be ready to design and make our own games and test them with each other. Before we take them home, we might have a games tournament and invite our families to play. Maybe our games will become famous too!

MEDIEVAL TIMES 'IN DAYS OF OLD WHEN KNIGHTS WERE BOLD':

July 15-26

Ok, we know what a knight is - or do we? Was he really a guy dressed in a silver suit who went around rescuing princesses, on a white horse and having big feasts with lots of food, and dancing and singing? Why did he have to be ‘bold’? And what about his castle - how did he build something so big? How did the heat it and cook his meals? Let’s go back in time and find out how life really was in Medieval Times. Maybe we’ll build our own castle and make up a play to entertain our guests at a banquet. Now, where is that court jester? We want to learn how to juggle.

CONCOCTIONS??!!:

July 29 - August 9 (no camp August 5th)

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you read that word, concoctions?! Did you think of a crazy scientist making a secret potion? Did you imagine mixing lots of coloured paint together to see what happens? Maybe you’ve made some tasty concoctions to eat or something like slime to ‘play’ with. We’re going to do lots of experimenting, measuring, mixing and shaking all kinds of substances and materials to see what happens. We’ll keep track of our results to share with others. We could even write a Concoction Recipe Book or have a Science Fair. We’ll invite some special visitors to show us their secret concoctions. Can’t wait!
